Michael-Donovan Ezeilo

Hi! I'm Michael-Donovan, I'm a Sustainable Development Strategist and Social Entrepreneur, working on providing sustainable solutions in the environment and social sectors. I am an Advocate for change and an activist (Robert Swan International Antarctica Expedition Nominee 2013) who is passionate about Youth, Volunteering, Climate Change.

I have previously worked with Nigeria's National Environment Agency (NESREA), where i was part of collaborative efforts that produced 5 environmental regulations that were made law in 2010. Working with the International Centre for Energy, Environment and Development (ICEED), i have been a part of research and policy development given to the government (Nigerian government) and its negotiators to both COP 15 and COP 16. I have been the Communications Strategist/Officer for the Nigeria Climate Action Network (NigeriaCAN), a coalition of government, individual, and private organisations working on climate change in Nigeria. As part of NigeriaCAN, we advocated, succesfully for the Bill to Establish a National Climate Change Commission.

The Bill has been passed by Nigeria's parliament and is currently awaiting presidential ascent.

Recently, i was part of delegates to Stockholm+40, and I've been involved in Youth preparations for Rio+20 under the Major Group for Children and Youth (UN CSD MGCY), particularly as it concerns the Green Economy. I am an Earth Charter Country Activator, and I've been on the steering committee that drafted Nigeria's National Youth Position Paper to Copenhagen.

I currently run a "sustainable development" initiative called Culture Green; working with the unemployed and local waste pickers segregating plastics and metals - with the "waste" being sold to local manufacturing companies that need it for raw materials (Note: there are no recycling facilities in Abuja).

Our aim is to promote sustainable development and help create sustainable cities, as we seek to inspire a Green Culture by promoting eco-responsibility.

What am I best known for and passionate about? Climate Change and Sustainable Development, and being the "Eco Guy" who runs a Planet Heroes Eco-Club in schools getting young kids to be interested in wanting to save their Planet.

The rest is a mouthful. Let's just say, I'm really pleased and eager to meet you all. Oh! and I'm fairly traveled and speak a little Spanish. Hasta luego!
