Colin the Catalyst

Designer, Strategist, and Creative Explorer

Why am I on this creative path?

While I was taking a walk, a stranger randomly stopped to ask me a question.

“What do you want to do with your life?” she asked. “I hope to study graphic design” I replied. “I wish I had studied graphic design” she said, with sadness on her face.

It was at that moment I realized I had to take immediate action. I would not wake up one day and suddenly live my dreams without a fight.

Why catalyst and what makes my heart beat?

It is a substance that increases the rate of a reaction without changing itself.

Having spent some time trying to discover what would motivate me for the rest of my life, I realised I enjoyed fighting to bring worthwhile dreams and goals to life.

To survive the tough journey, I focused on refining my foundations and designing systems to help me get things done.

After working on more than 100+ projects, I have gained over 16 years of experience and it has been a pleasure to serve those who have needed my skills and knowledge. In 2010 I graduated 3rd in my class at ZIVA Institute. In the same year, I represented my country at the SABS Design Achievers Awards in South Africa.

In 2013 I volunteered to host the second Adobe Behance Portfolio Review Week in Zimbabwe, which was a great opportunity to learn more about the global creative community. In 2014, I began giving back to the creative industry as a facilitator at ZIVA Institute. As the journey continued, I was promoted to the role of assistant director at ZIVA in 2017, which was been an amazing learning opportunity.

I am grateful to all the amazing people who have helped me on my personal and professional journey. I cannot thank them enough. All I wanted to do was to pick a path I could use to positively impact lives and create a journey worth remembering. I hope you have a chance to do the same for your journey.

My name is Colin the Catalystand I live to solve problems through strategy, tactics, design and process.

I look forward to hearing from you and discussing a potential journey together.
