Ruth Amarquaye

UK

CEO of Wekumei Enterprises has always liked to work. Not because she is not proud of her successes but more because she prefers to work behind the scenes so the success of others are seen.

Born and bred in Accra, Ruth attended and completed St. Anthony's Primary School in Lartebiokoshie and moved to join her family in London soon after. From a very young age, Ruth has had a passion for sports, music, events and many others and whichever she participated in, she excelled. Graduating with a degree in BSc Physiotherapy from a top London (UK) university was to set her up with a great career in one of her childhood dreams "Rehabilitation of the young and elderly" but it seemed there were other plans also in place.

As a great Executive and Personal Assistant, Miss Amarquaye worked with the Ghanaian Professional Achievers Awards (GPA Awards) for 3 successive awards cycles before Ms Bartels (GPA Awards pioneer) moved to Ghana. During the time as GPA PA, Ruth came into contact with some of the most professional Ghanaians from across the globe and the one who left the biggest impression was founder of FOCOS (The Foundation of Orthopedics and Complex Spine) Dr. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei.

Over the years, Ruth has been known as the "Party planner" and "Ghana entertainment correspondent" in the family and therefore it was to no surprise when she mentions invites to various classy events.

Miss Amarquaye has as her mentor: CEO of Ideas Genius, Senior Producer at BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra, and 6 times Sony Radio Academy Awards winner, Mr Bernard P. Achampong and he accompanied her in March 2011 to Ghana where she and a small team held the auditions for the maiden event of Miss West Africa Ghana. Ruth later went back to Ghana to host the finals in July without any financial assistance or sponsorships.
