I moved to San Diego about a year ago, with the intention of starting my life over after my wife decided to end our marriage, after being together for 10 years. Immediately following our separation, I went to Palm Springs and she went and hooked-up with my (ex) best friend. Well, I discovered there was nothing much out in Palm Springs but golf clubs/resorts and retirement communities. It was a place to vacation (quite a few adult oriented resorts), or move out there when you reached retirement status - which I haven't.
After realizing there was little to no chance of getting anything started in Palm Springs, I moved out to San Diego and I found the benefits of moving to one of the biggest cities in the U.S. There are a lot of opportunities out here, and I quickly fell back in to what I like to call 'downtown living', consisting of commuting on buses and trolley/trains, instead of dealing with traffic and parking.
