Rachel Mills

Writer and editor in the United Kingdom

Freelance writer and editor (print, digital) and expert in slow, sustainable travel. I like to write and edit articles, books and newsletters celebrating responsible tourism, climate solutions, nature, people, conservation, Indigenous culture, and resurgent seaside towns (like Margate, where I live).

I’m an ex-senior editor at Rough Guides and have been a contributing author to DK Eyewitness and Rough Guides travel books all over the world (India, Canada, New Zealand…), though these days, I'm flight free: a favourite recent project was writing the Rough Guide to Green Britain about travel by electric car.

I've written travel features for the Times here, Telegraph Travel here, the Independent here, loveEXPLORING here and Rough Guides here. Additional clients include AFAR, Culture Trip, Melt Content (for Expedia), Industry Dive (for Marriott), Quadrille/Hardie Grant and Insight Guides.

In-house projects alongside freelance have included a part-time brand manager role at UNICEF and a part-time product content lead job at sustainable travel start up Byway (where I wrote their “unpacked” series). I'm also really proud of my travel and lifestyle show Over Here on ramsgateradio.com.

I’ve got excellent communication and project management skills and I’m proficient in Word and InDesign, as well as using different CMS and Squarespace. I'm an expert in SEO content.
