I'm a freelance writer, journalist, consultant, general traveler, and amateur photographer.
New York, New York a city so nice, I've lived in it twice! I report on a variety of topics but my focus has been on the United Nations, climate change, international development, education, and global trade.
Speaking of which, that's where much of my professional life was spent. First as a paralegal and then a global trade compliance specialist and consultant, I managed companies' Commerce and Treasury department export license applications and controls, served as the point person for interpreting trade regulation changes for the sales and logistics staff, and worked on various litigation matters at the International Trade Commission and Court of International Trade. I am also a U.S. Licensed Customs Broker.
My last role involved a great deal of writing and researching memos about how business operations would be affected by current events and trade and customs legislative/regulatory changes. It turns out that distilling and reporting current events to internal staff was my favorite part of the job. It was then that I decided to take the leap and pursue my passion: I began freelancing for a small news subscription service.
So far, my work has appeared in Foreign Policy, Vocativ, Devex, UN Dispatch, SciDev, GOOD Magazine.
