Jillian Walker is a life-long singer, actress, writer, dramaturg and interdisciplinary thinker. Her play, Live on Top of Tables--which explores themes black female American identity through hair and marriage--received a warm welcome at Columbia University in the spring of 2015. Jillian is currently researching and writing a new piece about 1700s New Orleans that continues to explore the themes of identity and hair.

She has been a professional singer and actress for over a decade, gliding between Shakespeare and Motown verses. She has performed at such places as The Shrine World Music Venue, The Flea Theater, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, and the Detroit Institute of Art.

She wrote and co-produced her first album, Searching For Home (The Urban Gypsy EP), in 2012. To date, her music has been downloaded all over the world including in the United States, Australia, Japan & The UK. Her songwriting now echoes throughout all of her work as a writer, including her recent play and even her critical theatrical reviews.

In addition to writing and performing, Jillian is hugely passionate about empowering herself and others through teaching and speaking. She taught the adult acting workshop at Alabama Shakespeare Festival and appeared as a featured panelist at the New England Literature Program's 40th anniversary conference at The University of Michigan. Expanding her work internationally, she also recently assisted master Balinese Mask teacher Aole Miller in Bali.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English & Afro-American and African Studies from The University of Michigan, a certificate in Acting from The Studio / New York Conservatory and is a current Master of Fine Art candidate at Columbia University. She is a member of Actor’s Equity Association, the League of Professional Theatre Women, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
