Daphne Maia Loo

Daphne is the head of Social Media for a start-up agency Social Starters. She is based in Singapore with PR and Advertising agency experience in both B2B and B2C Social Media Marketing in tech, consumer, health and beauty industries.

She consults for companies and brands locally and regionally, and specializes in community management and social media campaign planning and execution.

Daphne has problems separating herself from social media networks, and is still having an inner debate on whether she would rather give up social media or caffeine (similar struggles with bacon or fried chicken). Due to her need to be constantly connected, she spends 16 hours a day on her computer and her phone.

Unlike self-proclaimed social media gurus, Daphne does not have "social media certifications". Instead, she has learnt everything she knows now through experience and interaction with the online community that she now serves, through experimenting, making mistakes and sometimes, achieving unexpected successes.

It is her belief that one cannot serve the online community unless you know the tools through personal use, and by being a part of the community itself, to understand what works and what does not.

As the online environment is constantly changing, she hopes to continue growing with it, innovating new ways of communicating with this community, and adding value to it through her personal interactions online, as well as through the campaigns and interactions she conducts on behalf of her clients.

Daphne hopes to see brands mature in their interaction with their online audience soon, and to steer clear away from campaigns and contests that require 'votes' to participate and win.
